Liverpool have been charged by UEFA over the disturbances at their Champions League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened by European football's governing body after a raft incidents, which overshadowed a stunning 3-0 first leg quarter-final win for Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield.

The club have been charged with four separate breaches of Article 16 of UEFA's disciplinary regulations relating to the behaviour of Liverpool supporters.

Good. I hope they get kicked out of the competition.

Edit...Just read it won't be dealt with until after the final. No surprises there then.

Reading about this says a lot about "football fans", how any real fan can see this as helping is beyond me.

lived and worked in Liverpool for 20 years and was lucky enough to watch Shankly's team.

Something I learned then was that a contingent of "fans" went to every game with no intention of watching or even entering the ground . They were there just to cause as much trouble as possible.

It would be interesting to find out if any yobs picked up had tickets for last nights game.

No matter who you support football does not need this.

It'll just be a fine that will barely be more than their income from one game, plus competition money. Maybe they'll have to play a qualifier behind closed doors next season. It's never anything that will actually punish the club beyond a slight inconvenience.

I was not suggesting they were not Liverpool fans but a group of idiots calling themselves fans but not going to the game.

Times may have changed but the trouble makers I used to see were undoubtedly Liverpool "fans"

of course you don't.

It's not too much of stretch to imagine a slightly different outcome.

Imagine if the draw had been against Barcelona and the shattered glass had blinded Lionel Messi. Imagine the world wide mourning. The loss to football fans everywhere. The reputation of English football fans for the rest of time.

They should be banned for life...after their long stretch in the clink.
