Paul Scholes has been named manager of League Two club Oldham Athletic.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder, 44, has taken his first managerial role, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract with the club he supported as a boy.

It'll never work.

I haven't read the full story but haven't the EFL relaxed their rules as you can't be a manager and part owner of another club? Surely, in the likely event Salford will eventually go up, there is a conflict of interest.

Can't see it going well at Oldham. They have shit owners and don't spend much.

You can apply for consent.
It's all about the contacts. Perfect place for United to send up and coming players without disrupting them.

True. Lampard is proving that at Derby to some extent. On the flip side, I thought that about Colin Hendry!

Still a difficult job for him. I have seen since that Scholes isn't allowed to sign or loan players from Salford and vice versa.
Good start for Scholes. 4-1 against Yeovil. Only 3,800 there.

Reality check for Scholes tonight.

Oldham 1-2 Morecambe

Crowds havent really increased either. Scholes is a legend but is not the type of person people would turn up to see.
Isn't he a local lad?
From Oldham and supposedly supports them so in that aspect, match made in heaven. I think it's going to work against Scholes but too early to tell.

That didn't last long.

Cunt of a chairman who saw him as a celebrity and not a manager. Full marks to Scholes for not accepting it

They are organising a protest against the chairman.
