Blackpool v Walsall

League One
Sat 9th Feb 2019 - KO 15:00
Bloomfield Road

Team News

Blackpool captain Jay Spearing will miss the Sky Bet League One clash with Walsall after being ruled out for a month with a knee injury.

The midfielder picked up the problem in the Tangerine's 2-2 draw against Wycombe on Tuesday. Callum Guy is also sidelined with an ankle injury having come off in the 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury last month. Long-term absentees Jimmy Ryan (knee) and Max Clayton (hamstring) remain out for the hosts.

Walsall boss Dean Keates could make changes to arrest their slump in form. Zeli Ismail and Liam Kinsella were left out of the squad which lost 2-1 to Rochdale and the duo could return.

Captain Adam Chambers remains sideline with a broken foot he suffered in August while Kory Roberts has missed the entire campaign after breaking his leg in pre-season and is not expected back until next term. Walsall, who sit three points above the relegation zone, have won just one of their last nine league games and go into Saturday's fixture having suffered back-to-back defeats.

Each of the last four league meetings between Blackpool and Walsall have finished level, albeit only one of these was at Bloomfield Road, a 2-2 draw in February 2018.

Walsall have only won one of their last four league visits to Blackpool (D1 L2), although this was a 4-0 thrashing on August 2015 under manager Dean Smith.

Blackpool are unbeaten in their last four games in League One (W2 D2), their longest run in the competition since October 2018 (11 games without defeat).

Walsall have lost their last two league games (both 1-2), while they haven't lost three in a row since March 2018 (a run of four consecutive defeats).

Armand Gnanduillet has been directly involved in half of Blackpool's last 12 goals in League One, scoring four and assisting two.

Manager's thoughts

Walsall Manager

"It’s fine margins but we’re not performing for 90 minutes. We’ve got to be bang at it from now on. “It’s been tough and I can understand fans getting frustrated. I come from a council estate in Walsall myself so I know people are struggling with how it is going. “It is not been great since the first quarter of the season when we were on such a good run. “It’s not great. But there are teams below us who would take our position compared with there’s.

What Walsall fans are saying

The pitch will always be leveller but Blackpool should really win even without Spearing.

Blackpool 2-0 Walsall. Att. 3,243 (314 away)

I think storm Eric might ruin things as a spectacle tomorrow.

I'm saying a 3-2 win! Having looked at a few predictions, 2-2 draw seems to keep coming up

(Link removed - we do not promote gambling)

Even though we drew our last home game 2-2. Surely not 2 in a row?!

Surely not...

Pitch will resemble a muddy field today

‍Does Storm Eric play for Walsall or is he the brother of Trump's mistress?

Hopefully another 3 pts towards avoiding relegation

Looking more likely a relegation battle. We won't make the play offs but could get 12 points docked. On that basis, you would say a must win game today.

The loan players struggling to get a game. Surprised Pritchard is starting. Looks like a 4-4-2.

With a 12 points deduction we would be joint second bottom on 31 points.

I'm going for a positive (with the wind 😄) 3-1 win.

What happens if we get in play off (by some  miracle ) play & won 1st round before a docked points situation .

1-0 up 👍
Long. Seems to know where the back of the net is.
Nobbers, Fleetwood and Fylde all winning.
Looks packed to the rafters 🤣 .

HT: Blackpool 1-0 Walsall. Utterly dominant half from the Seasiders who have played some lovely football

The stats don't show us a utterly dominant.

We've had twice as many shots on target as them - that's what I call dominant!!

Crowd given as 3,252 (622 Walsall) https://t.co/1cdTS5GszZ

Pool going more defensive. Virtue on for Long

Walsall miss a pen.

Seems a lot more even this half

2-0 Pool
2-0 😄😄

‍? A good win 😃

Walsall are struggling so a win you would expect. Any win is good though just in case we get that points deduction.
A team with no training ground and fuck all investment are performing miracles.

It’s coming, so all points needed right now.

‍If you look at it like that, we have beaten one of our relegation rivals so 6 pointer.
