THE HOMECOMING

Probably the most anticipated match day thread in a long time. Can't see many people posting on it because we will all be at the game! I will be updating this thread with pictures as best I can. The BHS Twitter account will also go live at certain points to give the exiles a taste of the experience.

What a difference Oyston leaving has made. I honestly don't know anyone (who went previously) who isn't going to this. The majority are making it a family occasion as well which is great as it will hopefully get the next generation interested again.

On paper this should be three points to the Seasiders but there are so many factors to consider such as the pressure of the crowd, the pitch, team selection, etc so it might not be as easy as we think. Neither sides form is great with Blackpool winning one in six and Southend with no wins in six.

It's going to be a big ask to make the play-offs. We need to win tomorrow and follow that up with a win against Doncaster. Perhaps then we can start talking about the play-offs seriously. Doncaster still have a game in hand and if they win that, the gap would be 7 points and I don't think we are good enough to claw that back. At the end of the day though, it doesn't really matter; it's just good to have our club back.

Manager's Thoughts

Terry McPhillips

Chris Powell

“The next fixture against Blackpool and we’ll have to stand up and be counted.

“Everyone wants to play in good atmosphere’s and packed stadiums and that’s the case on Saturday.

“It’s about us spoiling the party as such. The performance is what’s needed.

“On the road we’re eighth in the table and we know our home form is nowhere near that.

“But we’ve picked up some good points away from home recently at Bradford, Charlton, Accrington so it’s in us to pick up a point or three on the road and that’s what we need right now.”

Team News

Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips has a few fitness checks to make ahead of Saturday's League One clash against Southend.

McPhillips said two unnamed players had picked up knocks in the midweek win at Accrington and would face late tests.

There is better news for Marc Bola, who could be ready to return after missing the last four matches with a hamstring injury, while Callum Guy is also nearing a return. Jimmy Ryan and Max Clayton remain sidelined, however.

Southend have had a major boost on the injury front with Jason Demetriou ready to return. The right-back has been missing since November with a knee injury but is in the frame for Saturday's match.

John White (groin) and goalkeeper Mark Oxley (back) have also been back in training and could be pushing for a place on the bench. mLast week's 3-0 home defeat against Barnsley left Southend without a win in seven league outings, having slipped to 13th in the standings.

Stats

Blackpool, 2-1 winners in the reverse meeting between these two sides in November 2018, are looking to complete a league double over Southend for the first time since the 1984-85 fourth tier campaign.

Southend have only won one of their last nine away league games against Blackpool (D3 L5), a 2-1 victory in January 2006.

Blackpool have failed to score in five of their last seven home matches in all competitions - they had failed to find the net in just five of their previous 52 games at Bloomfield Road.

What Southend fans are saying pre-match

https://backhenrystreet.co.uk/discussion/35594/what-southend-united-fans-are-saying#

Pre-match plans

The club will be remembering those supporters and players we've lost in the last five years prior to kick-off, with the following activity taking place:

2.50pm - Wreaths to be laid behind the goals of the North (Mortensen) and South (Armfield) stands by supporters' groups, the Former Players' Association and the families of Barrie Martin and Callum Fyall.

2.59pm - A minute's silence.

Also prior to the match, two new flags will be unveiled and are set to be passed around the two stands at 2.40pm.

Prediction

This will all be about how the players react to the big crowd. There is a worry the players might freeze. Our home form of late hasn't been great so we will need to improve. The pitch is also a leveller and makes it more of a lottery. Having said that, there is no way I can predict anything other than three points to Blackpool in our first game back.

Blackpool 2-0 Southend. Att 16,214 (324 away)

4-0 Blackpool.

An excellent article by Colin Murray to whet the appetite.

Red that earlier absolutely spot on

Looking forward to long match threads

2-0 to pool
I’m going for 3-1 to Blackpool. The Muckers can give the southern cunts the two finger salute as they sneak back down south with their tails between their legs.

There's 11 games left, plenty of points up for grabs.

We're going all the way I'm telling you.

You didn't believe me when I told you it would be a sellout, but believe this, we're getting promoted this season!

You better be fucking right, league 1 footy is below us.
It's gonna be a film, and the end is at Wembley, I've seen it.

I'm so excited. I could even hug a Preston fan right now

Yes Magic, you were right about a sellout. My prediction of 7,800 looks so piss poor. I'm glad I was way off with my prediction

3-1

Gnanduillet

I'm very jealous but so please for you locals.

Man it be rocking ,will tune in.

UTPool 😃😃😃

Ps 3-1 to us
4-0 Pool
The owner suggested The Nolans will be making an appearance. Should be funny.

Can't be arsed with programmes these days but for those that do, there is a special edition tomorrow.

Every credit to the Muckers for doing this... (pitch looks terrible!)

That's the spirit magic. You could be right, and I got carried away in the good vibe t'other day and got on promotion at 80/1.

Spearing and his shining class at this level will hoist Pool to a good win tomorrow on this historic moment in our history.

I think 3-0 looks about right.

I've got a double on Blackpool to be promoted and Liverpool to win the PL.

Think it's about £500 back if it comes in.

Did we decide on The Bloomfield at 1?
Thoughts on paying 7 pounds for the EFL's streaming service to watch the match tomorrow? Really want to watch from the US of A, but also don't want to financially help the EFL out at all.
I say fill your boots AT.

Yeah mate I may be there before it. We will need to decide where we are meeting after the game as well as Jezza needs to know to come and meet us

They've only managed to get 4000 printed. The printers weren't willing to take an order any bigger due to the financial uncertainty around the club. Picked mine up today.
Bloomfied at 1

The future's bright, the future's Tangerine

New sign where the Oyston one was.

That footage from the south stand showed a terrible pitch. With more rain on the way, that will need a pitch inspection in the morning. It will be early due to how far our opponents are traveling. Really hope the hard work put in will be rewarded with a win for our team.
